It may seem like strange relation but the human body is relevant in all sorts of design, even flower pots. It all stems around the idea of proportion and what we perceive as correct or not. By studying the human form I am able to better understand what proportions look good, challenging and interesting and I can develop my flower pot and coffee table ranges accordingly.

It is not uncommon for designers to have sketching skill as we all need to be able to accurately convey our creative ideas to other designers and engineers or clients. The skill level of each designer really depends on the talent they have but also the industry they design for. For example I myself have less need to draw, when designing flower pots and outdoor coffee tables than a character designer because what I find most effective is to actually make maquettes is faster and more accurate.

This reduced need to sketch on a frequent basis means that I need to do it in my spare time and practice to maintain my sketching skill level and the images seen before you are the bi-product of this creative maintenance.

There are hugely talented people out there who can draw accuracy like you would not believe and whilst I can’t compete with those guys I can make a mean garden flower pot or style a tasty coffee table.
