This was a sofa sketch I did to practice some art and techniques. It helps to keep my eye in with design and get my ideas down on paper
The dust is now settling on London Design Week and for those lucky enough to get down there it was a great few days. I took a trip on Friday and Saturday and walked round Heal’s, Tent, Design Junction and 100% design and they were all different but all good.
Origami is obviously the inspiration for my own garden flower pots but the art form spreads far beyond that and people have created some quite amazing examples. Below are a selection of images I have found that show some real creativity in the ability to make a recognizable form from a flat piece of paper, well done to those who did it!
As part of my ongoing effort to get my name out there in the garden design industry I mail shot several large publications in the hope that they would like my work and want to help me push my name. The Garden Design Journal were kind enough to take an interest in my designs and published my Kronen flower pot in the Object section of Septembers edition. this is the section which shows off interesting products that you might not usually see in stores so it was right up my street.
The trend in origami has been increasing over recent years with a good selection of products now on offer that take inspiration from this ancient art. Le klint are perhaps the the most famous and successful implementers of the technique creating beautiful lamp shades from pvc sheeting. They use a combination of pleated folds and creased curves to generate shapes you never knew possible from a flat piece of material.
